Elio Maristella comes from a family with mixed heritage. The surname Maristella has French roots and means “Star of the Sea.” His parents chose the name Elio, meaning sun, hoping that together his name would symbolize light over the sea, something bright and hopeful for their future.Elio was born in Liguria, Italy, a coastal region known for its cliffs, colorful seaside towns, and the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean. His birth was meant to mend the fragile relationship between his parents. They believed that a child might bring peace back into their marriage. However, the calm they hoped for never truly came.

When Elio was just one year old, his father decided to move with him to Bali. What was meant to be a temporary change slowly turned into a new life far from Italy.The tension that had quietly grown during the first three years of his parents’ marriage finally broke when Elio was five years old. His parents divorced.For Elio, however, life never seemed broken. Children have a way of accepting the world as it is, and he continued to grow up surrounded by two different homes. Every summer holiday, he would return to Italy to visit his mother and spend time in the house where he had been born.To him, there was little difference between Italy and Bali. Both were places shaped by the sea.In Bali, his father often took him to walk along the shoreline, sometimes simply sitting together and watching the waves. Other times, he would bring Elio to Seminyak Beach, where he learned to surf while the sun set over the horizon. The ocean quietly became a constant presence in his life, familiar and comforting.Years passed, and Elio grew into adulthood under the warmth of tropical skies and the distant memory of Mediterranean summers.Everything began to change after he finished high school and started preparing for university. During one of his visits to Italy, he met a colleague of his mother. The man was only five years older than Elio, not old enough to be considered an “uncle,” yet still carrying the calm confidence of someone more experienced in life.There was something about him that immediately caught Elio’s attention.The way he spoke.
The way he seemed to enjoy life without rushing through it.
The ease with which he moved through conversations, cities, and quiet moments.Elio found himself fascinated.
